Hawaii Hideaways homes’ locations, size and amenities vary, but we opted for a stay at Infinity Bay in Maui’s tony Kapaua neighborhood. The five and a half bedroom, 9,000 square foot mansion, owned by Maui-reared artist Christian Lassen is situated directly on Oneloa Beach and has a gym, three Jacuzzis and a 60-foot swimming pool. Wow Factor: The infinity-edge swimming pool is partially framed by a two story great room whose 30 foot glass walls retract to welcome the sights, sounds and smells of the Pacific. What did we love most? The decadent master suite, which features a private terrace with Jacuzzi, his and hers flat screen TVs, a kitchenette and glass walls on three sides through which guests take in exquisite ocean views. (Advise clients who visit during whale season, December 15 – May 15, to keep a close eye on the ocean while lazing here, on one occasion, we spotted several humpbacks breaching just offshore, even before getting out of bed. Prepping in the master suite’s massive marble bathroom is especially pleasant – it features a dual shower, whirlpool tub and double sinks that are backed by panoramic mirror with an affixed flat screen TV. Perpetual over packers needn’t worry – a large, open walk in closet next to the bathroom easily stores enough clothing and accessories for an extended stay. Tip: If the master suite gets snapped up, make a dash for the Madonna Room. Its bed is one of just two of its kind in existence, the other belongs to Madge herself.
With its own screening room (the jungle-themed room, complete with white faux fur rugs and its own private bath, doubles as an extra bedroom), outdoor barbecue and nine foot billiard/dining table, we say Infinity Bay is tough to beat for a high profile getaway.
