Considered one of the island’s premier, high-end communities, Portlock is a beautiful coastal neighborhood located along Oahu’s Maunalua Bay. Sprawling mansions and breathtaking Portlock luxury vacation rentals dot the landscape of this quiet community, with plenty to see and do nearby.
Things To Do
Nature lovers will enjoy all that surrounds our luxury vacation rentals in Portlock. The shoreline offers an unobstructed view of Diamond Head which is nothing short of breathtaking, especially at sunset! China Wall is a rocky shoreline located in Koko Kai Mini Beach Park from which you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Depending on the time of day, you’re likely to catch some brave souls jumping off of these cliffs, however we advise against this as the waves here can be quite powerful. The Spitting Cave at Portlock Point is another area that attracts cliff jumpers. As the water rushes in to the cave, the sea spray makes its way back out lending credence to the nickname “Spitting Cave”. While we don’t recommend jumping, thanks to the rock formations, there are plenty of places to sit and take in the spectacular view that surrounds you. There are three golf courses in close proximity to our vacation rental properties in Portlock. Waialae Country Club is a private golf course boasting 18 holes on Bermuda grass. Ala Wai and Hawaii Kai are two public 18-hole courses also located nearby. Oahu is home to Pearl Harbor, the site of the 1941 bombing that marked the US entry in to WWII. This is a historic landmark and there are several tour operators who will take you out to the harbor, or you can choose to drive yourself and explore this landmark and the USS Arizona memorial on your own schedule. Hikers may want to drive out to Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area to hike the 2 mile trail and enjoy native plants and wildlife, while those a little less adventurous may opt to visit the Honolulu Zoo instead. The zoo is a short distance away making this the perfect day trip for animal lovers and those with small children. Because our Portlock luxury vacation rentals are located along the coastline, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming and snorkelling are some of the other activities available.
Portlock Beach fronts the luxury properties along the coastline in Portlock making it one of the more secluded beaches in the area. If you are looking to ditch the crowds and enjoy a little privacy on your Hawaii vacation, this beach is ideal. Maunalua Bay Beach Park is also close-by and perfect for water activities like kayaking and paddling, although due to its rocky bottom, it’s not the best choice for swimming. Thanks to its soaring waves, Sandy Beach is a surfer’s paradise. While the waves aren’t recommended for amateurs, this beach is a great spot to sunbathe and watch some of Hawaii’s more skilled surfers and body boarders. Our Portlock luxury vacation rentals are all located within 15 - 20 minutes of Honolulu which means the world famous Waikiki Beach is just a short drive away. One of Hawaii’s busiest beaches, Waikiki offers something for everyone. From sunbathing to surf lessons, there is plenty to do both on and off the beach. Because this beach is located in a high-traffic resort area it can be quite crowded but there are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance should you need a break from all of the activity.
Restaurants and Nightlife
The Koko Marina Center offers some fantastic eateries with waterfront dining. Sushi lovers won’t want to miss out on the chance to dine at Gokoku. Harbor Village Cuisine, also located at the Koko Marina Center serves up a divine Dim Sum with out of this world seafood dishes; while Assaggio Ristorante caters to those who can’t get enough of Italian cuisine! Assaggio’s combines their great food with ambiance. Enjoy their delicious lobster stuffed ravioli as you marvel at the beautiful views of the marina and magnificent landscape in the background.
Those seeking a more urban feel or the vibe of a bustling city will want to head in to Honolulu. Chinatown has undergone and makeover and is filled with lively bars and restaurants catering to all palates. The Lucky Bell Noodle Bar is a must for Ramen noodle lovers. They also offer craft cocktails and a late night window after hours which serves up some of the best street eats you’ll find in the city. If you’re looking to combine cocktails and culture, the Honolulu Museum of Art hosts ArtAfterDark once each month. The First Friday Art Walk is another popular outing allowing visitors to explore Hawaii’s thriving arts community. The event combines the arts with a bit of a block party. Galleries extend their hours, street performers line the sidewalks, and the bars and restaurants offer up First Friday specials.
The location of our luxury vacation rentals in Portlock allow our guests to relax and unwind in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere while still being close to restaurants and shopping. The KoKo Marina Center is the closest and has more than 70 merchants offering shoppers a variety of unique restaurants and boutiques, a movie theatre, as well as salon and spa services, banking and dry-cleaning. If you’re looking for one-of-a kind finds, check out Dream Fantasia, a local merchant specializing in handmade jewellery and other specialty gifts. Weather and Ocean Conditions
Our Portlock luxury vacation rentals are located on Oahu’s south shore which tends to be sunnier and drier than other parts of the island. The weather in Portlock ranges from a low of 65 F to 78 F in January, with an average high of 88 F in peak season. Thanks to our gentle trade winds though, the climate is comfortable year-round. Ocean swells are largely dictated by weather conditions and wind. The summer months tend to generate larger waves while the winter months see calmer waters and small surf. Because the ocean conditions can change from day to day, it’s important to take precautions, heed warnings and read the safety signs posted on our beaches as these are there for your protection.
