One of the highlights of this area is the sunset cliff diving ceremony at Puu Kekaa, or Black Rock. According ancient folklore, Maui’s last chief, Kahekili leapt from the scared rock in a display of spiritual strength and the re-enactment pays tribute to this legend.

The beach bottom is sandy but inexperienced swimmers should refrain from swimming here when the surf is rough. Ka’anapali Beach is also close-by. Lahaina’s Baby Beach is considered the safest beach in the area, especially for those with small children as it’s protected by an off-shore reef.
