Waikoloa is a beautiful resort community located on the west side of the Big Island’s “Golden” Kohala Coast. With mostly sunny skies, the community is known for its white sand beaches, championship level golf, high-end shopping, and some of the most stunning luxury vacation rental properties in Waikoloa.

Things to Do

The Kohala Coast is the Big Island’s most popular tourist destination so there is no shortage of activities for guests staying at one of our Waikoloa luxury vacation rental properties. In addition to the two top-ranked courses here in Waikoloa, golfers will also enjoy others nearby like the Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course at Mauna Kea, or the Arnold Palmer designed Hapuna Beach course which boasts stunning ocean views from almost every hole. The Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve is a must see for history buffs with more than 1000 lava rock etchings / petroglyphs carved in to stone by the native Hawaiians. You can discover more of Hawaii’s history at the Puukohola Heiau. Designated a National Historic Site, the Puukohola heiau is the largest remaining ancient temple here in Hawaii. According to history, King Kamehameha the Great built this particular heiau and dedicated it to the war god Kukailimoku to help him gain control of the neighbouring Hawaiian Islands. This is considered a sacred place so keep this in mind if visiting the area, remembering to take your trash with you when you leave. To see where Captain James Cook first landed when he came to Hawaii, take a trip over to Kealakekua Bay. Unfortunately this is where he also met his death during a battle that came about over a stolen pair of blacksmith tongs. Volcanoes National Park is the highlight of the Big Island. Two of the Hawaii’s three active volcanoes are here and visitors can spend the day walking more than 150 miles of hiking trails. You’ll find cascading waterfalls, black sand beaches and Kilauea’s lava flowing in to the Pacific. For a spectacular view of Hawaii, you can take a tour of the island on a small charter plane or helicopter through one of the local tour operators. The more adventurous guests at our Waikoloa luxury vacation rentals will enjoy an aerial trek at Kohala Zip Line Adventures. Manta Ray point can be pretty spectacular after dark as these amazing creatures gracefully glide across the water feeding on the local krill. With more than 300 sunny days each year and average ocean temperatures of 74 F, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and paddle boarding are also great ways to spend your time on the Big Island.

Beaches

A'naeho'omalu, or A Bay as it’s also known, is a long sandy beach located right beside our luxury vacation rental properties in Waikoloa. Protected by an offshore reef this beach is great for swimming when the surf isn’t high. Hapuna Beach is the nicest one on the island with a ½ mile of beautiful white sand to sink your toes in to. The clear waters are great for swimming, snorkeling and boogie boarding. Kuki'o is another great beach and perfect for families with children when the surf is calm.

Restaurants and Nightlife

If you are staying in a vacation rental property in Waikoloa, you’ll benefit from the five-star dining and entertainment options this resort community has to offer. The Imari Japanese Steakhouse and Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill are favorites among guests staying at our Waikoloa luxury vacation rentals. There are two options here for those hoping to experience a Hawaiian Lua and if it’s a cocktail you’re after, head on over to the Aloha Wine Bar at the Oueen’s Shops in the Waikoloa Resort.

Shopping

The Shops at Waikoloa Village are a stone’s throw away from our Waikoloa vacation rentals and are known for their appeal to luxury shoppers. Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton and Coach are just a few of the high-end retailers you’ll find here. Unique gifts and souvenirs including locally made art, jewellery and other craft items can be found at the popular open air Kona International Market in nearby Kailua-Kona.
