  • Hualalai Resort Hillside 4102 it is all about the Location-Location-Location!

A playground to the upper echelon and Hollywood’s elite, Hualalai is a world-class resort area on the Big Island’s beautiful Kohala-Kona coast. Located on Hawaii Island’s east side, this community is one of the state’s most distinguished, and is known for the magnificent multi-million dollar homes that front the 40-mile stretch of turquoise water along the Pacific. In addition to the popular resorts in the area, there are several luxury vacation rental properties in Hualalai for tourists to choose from.

Things to Do

There is no shortage of activities for guests staying in one of our vacation rental homes in Hualalai as resort living here comes complete with championship level golf, top-tier dining, and relaxing spa-treatments, all within steps of each other. Golfers will enjoy the Jack Nicklaus designed, award winning 18-hole Hualalai course, and the Waikoloa and Hapuna courses are also available slightly further up the coast. The Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve is not to be missed. This fascinating historical site is home to more than 1000 lava rock etchings / petroglyphs carved in to stone by the native Hawaiians. Symbols of people, turtles and canoes mark the lava rock in the area and are thought to represent significant occasions or events in the lives of Hawaii’s earliest settlers. You can discover more of Hawaii’s history at the Puukohola Heiau. There are heiau (temple) sites throughout Hawaii where the ancient kahunas would perform rituals and offer up sacrifices to the gods. Designated a National Historic Site, the Puukohola heiau is the largest remaining one in Hawaii. According to history, King Kamehameha the Great built this particular heiau and dedicated it to the war god Kukailimoku to help him gain control of the neighbouring Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii’s heiau’s are considered sacred places so it’s important to keep this in mind and be respectful of the area, remembering to take your trash with you when you leave. The highlight of the Big Island is of course, Volcanoes National Park . The park is an ecological wonder and one of Hawaii’s biggest tourist attractions. Home to two of the state’s three active volcanoes and full of native plants and wildlife, the park provides an opportunity to stand face-to-face with one of nature’s most powerful forces. Complete with 150 miles of hiking trails, cascading waterfalls, black sand beaches and bright lava flowing in to the Pacific, the park is an incredible site to behold. For a spectacular view of Hawaii, you can take an aerial tour of the island on a small charter plane or helicopter through one of the local tour operators. With more than 300 sunny days each year and average ocean temperatures of 74 F, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and paddle boarding are also great ways to spend your time on the Big Island.

Beaches

Guests staying in a Hualalai vacation rental home have some great local beaches to choose from. With white sand and crystal clear waters, some of the area beaches include:

Alula Beach: This is a tucked away small white-sand and black lava rock beach. When the water is calm, this beach is great for swimming and snorkeling.

Anaeho'omalu Bay: this white sand beach is located a little further up the shore near the Waikoloa Beach Resort, and is one of prettiest beaches in this area. Protected by an offshore reef, Anaeho'omalu is treated to calmer waters making this a good choice for swimming. Like most of Hawaii’s beaches though, the water here can be treacherous when the surf is high.

Ka'upulehu Beach – Located right here in Haulalai, Ka'upulehu Beach is great for lounging on the sand with a good book but due to its lava shelf, it’s not the best suited for swimming.

Hapuna Beach – Located further up the coast in Hapuna Bay Beach Park, Hapuna is frequently touted as one of the country’s top beaches. With white sand, clear water, and a small coral reef, it’s easy to see why this beach comes so highly recommended.

Restaurants and Nightlife

The resort area of Hualalai offers world-class dining and there are plenty of options to choose from. Whether it’s a light lunch on the green or a romantic dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants, guests staying in one of Hualalai’s luxury vacation rentals will not be disappointed. The Four Seasons ULU Ocean Grill offers an elegant atmosphere with an amazing view of ocean, and there is also a Sushi Bar here that goes by the same name. If you’re looking for more casual faire in a laid back environment, you can head over to the Kona Brewing Company Pub and Brewery in nearby Kailua-Kona.

Shopping

Guests staying at a vacation rental property in Hualalai can indulge in a little retail therapy at one of several area shopping centers. Located a short drive up shore, the Shops at Waikoloa Village will appeal to luxury shoppers with stores like Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Coach and many others. The Kona International Market in Kailua-Kona is an outdoor shopping center with boutique stores, unique gifts and locally made art, jewellery and other craft items.

Weather and Ocean Conditions

There are 8 different climate zones on the Big Island but our luxury vacation rentals in Hualalai are located in the heart of the “Golden” Kohala Coast! This area is known for its consistently sunny skies and receives an average of just nine inches of rain each year. The average temperature range is 70 F – 80 F. Gentle trade winds blow north east across the island which keeps things comfortable throughout the year. Depending on the season, the temperature of the ocean waters around our Hualalai vacation rental homes fluctuates between 75 F and 82 F making it perfectly suited for swimming. The ocean conditions in Hawaii are influenced by the weather and can change from day-to-day. Because the waters can be dangerous; especially during high surf, it’s important to exercise caution and always read the warning signs posted on our beaches as these are here for your safety.

Getting Around

There is much to see and do in the area around our luxury vacation rental properties in Hualalai, but we recommend a rental car for your stay. This will allow you to easily travel to surrounding attractions, and explore all that the Big Island has to offer.
