A Yoga Studio for Fighters

north shore oahu waimea valley hawaii vacation destination

Editor’s note: This is the third entry in a series exploring Hawaii’s yoga studios. Read the first two here and here

When you practice yoga, you’re working toward becoming a better you, both physically and spiritually. And we’re not talking just about looking good and feeling good. We’re talking about pushing out impurities, so that you live a long, fulfilling life.

This is a fact the founders of Maui Yoga and Kickboxing understand well.  As Marge Grace & James Onnikian write on the studio’s website: “Hot Yoga is for HEALTH. We believe you can cook out the poisons, and heat up disease and sweat it out.”

And sweat you will! In hot yoga, you hold poses in high temperatures. It’s about stretching your body, both literally and figuratively, in order to make it as pure as possible. That it also makes for a great workout is an added bonus.

If this sounds intimidating, don’t worry. Grace and Onnikian also offer gentle yoga courses, which are perfect for newbies and veteran practitioners alike.

So, what’s up with the “kickboxing” in the Maui Yoga and Kickboxing’s title? Onnikian is a former champion kickboxer, and he offers that skill and knowledge in extensive—and intensive—kickboxing and self-defense courses. Whether you’re training to deal with armed or unarmed attackers, or whether you’re simply training for fun and to stay in shape, Onnikian’s classes give you what you want—and need.
