Top Spots to Celebrate July 4th

Kauai, Hawaii - luxury vacation destination

Selecting the right spot to watch July 4th fireworks displays in Hawaii isn’t an exact science. Ideally, you want a good place to sit, a clear view, cool weather, and the ocean as a backdrop. And, of course, lots and lots of crackling, booming, whizzing, explosions of light and color.

With these criteria in mind, here are our suggestions for the best fireworks displays on each island.

MAUI

The Maui Chamber of Commerce sponsors a sensational July 4th celebration along the Lahaina roadstead, on Maui’s West side. Beginning at 8 p.m., visitors can watch the show from the ocean on a rented boat, from the shore, or further inland. (We highly recommend taking in the show from the rooftop bar at Fleetwoods.) Local businesses will offer discounts throughout the day, so be sure to get there early and enjoy all the city has to offer.

OAHU

By day, this July 4th celebration is a music fest featuring a genre-spanning collection of acts, from DJs to jazz bands to traditional Hawaiian players. By night, it morphs into a massive a fireworks display over the breathtaking Maunalua Bay. Overseen by the Maunalua Communities Foundation, this event is also designed to raise money and awareness for local educational programs. Time: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

KAUAI

Another July 4th event for a good cause is the “24th Annual Concert in the Sky.” Held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vindinha Soccer Field, this festival/fireworks display helps raise money for the Kaua’i Hospice. There are giveaways (including a trip for two to Vegas), water slides, live music, and, of course, a fireworks show. Advanced tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. At the gate: $15 for adults and $7 for children.

HAWAII

The Kailuna-Kona July 4th Parade is good family fun that culminates in a dazzling fireworks display. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m., the parade route travels from Kuakini Highway to Alii Drive to Coconut Grove Marketplace. From there, head over to Kailua Bay, where the fireworks show will light up the night sky at 8 p.m.
