Some attribute it to Oprah & Dr. Oz. Others to the rise of Brazil as an economic power. But whatever the forces that brought acai to America’s tables, and specifically, to Maui’s Choice Health Bar, we say: “Thank you.”
This superfruit packs a mean, vitamin-packed punch, and at Lahaina’s most popular healthy eatery, it comes in many variations, all of which are conveniently, and deliciously, served in a bowl.
There’s the OG ($8): double acai, bananas, and apple juice. And there’s the “Superfresh” ($10): berries, lime juice, papaya, and that other superfood – kale. There are still other bowls packed with nutrient-rich goodies and flavor profiles that speak to owners Emily Kunz and Katherine Dahm adventurous – but never offensive – sensibilities.
Of course, that’s not all the good folks here are serving up. There are smoothies, veggies, fruits and other treats to heal your body and soothe your soul, including desserts and “chips” that you won’t find in a grease-streaked bag of Lay’s. There’s also an item you have to try: raw vegan oyster shooters (a flight of six goes for $9). Trust us.
Choice Health Bar is only open for breakfast and lunch, making it the perfect place to start your day or reboot in the middle of a 9-hour shift.
