Located on Kauai’s south shore, Poipu is one of the “Garden Isle’s” most popular tourist destinations. Known as the Sunny Side of Kauai, the town enjoys some of the best weather on the island. Our luxury vacation rental properties in Poipu are just steps away from Kauai’s best beaches, championship level golf courses, fine dining and fabulous shopping.
Things to Do
Our Poipu luxury vacation properties are conveniently located close to some of the best activities this beautiful resort community has to offer. Golfers should take advantage of the opportunity to play one of the pro-ranked courses nearby. The Kiahuna Golf Club and Poipu Bay are both top ranked courses, with the latter hosting the PGA Grand Slam for 12 years. Hiking is popular throughout the state of Hawaii and there are plenty of options in Poipu. The Mahaulepu trail is a beautiful two-mile trek starting at Shipwreck Beach, while the Kalalau trail is an eleven-mile coastal hike, renowned for its spectacular scenery along the way. Kokee State Park is also close-by with 45 miles of incredible hiking trails winding through wetlands, forest foliage and wild flowers. Spouting Horn Park is home to a spectacular blowhole spraying water as high as 50 feet in the air so be sure to bring your camera when you visit. If you’re a java junkie, the Kauai Coffee Company offers a walking tour of their farm. Stop by their small museum and enjoy a cup of Hawaii’s best! The truly daring may want to explore the area from above with a zipline adventure. Koloa Zipline tours offers an 8 line course which takes you through wetlands, across the water, and above the forest top. Water sports are another favorite pastime in Poipu, and snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking are all great choices.
Poipu boasts some of the best beaches in Hawaii so if sunbathing is your thing, this is the destination for you! Many of our Poipu luxury vacation properties are located on the most incredible stretches of sand Kauai has to offer. Area beaches include:
Poipu Beach Park - Located on the east side of town, this family-friendly beach has a lifeguard on-site and is great for snorkeling. The beach is also a known stomping ground for the Hawaiian Monk seals that often use the beach for sunbathing. If you’re lucky, you just might catch a glimpse of some green sea turtles lounging here as well.
Shipwreck Beach – Due to a short shore break, this isn’t the best beach for swimming, but you’re likely to find some of our skilled locals surfing the incredible waves here.
Brennecke’s Beach – In the evening, this beach is one of the best for catching a famous Hawaiian sunset, but by day it’s a favorite for boogie boarding and body surfing. There is a small, somewhat protected area for those who’d like to swim or snorkel however it’s a good idea to check the conditions for the day before heading out.
Baby Beach – Family-friendly Baby Beach is considered the best beach in the area for those with toddlers. Large rocks protect the area from high surf, and the water is shallow enough for wading.
Restaurants and Nightlife
Staying in one of Poipu’s luxury vacation rentals puts you in the heart of the action that comes with a resort community. There is no shortage of restaurants, cafes and bars to tempt your taste buds at every turn. Dondero’s and Cada Di Amici can be counted on for fine dining and delicious Italian cuisine, while Josselin’s Tapas Bar and Restaurant has more of a lively feel and is the ideal place to enjoy cocktails. For a combination of atmosphere, great food, drinks and live music, try Keoki’s Paradise, and don’t leave without ordering the Hula Pie! No visit to Hawaii is complete without attending a lua, and the Auli’i Lua dinner show takes place oceanside right in the heart of Poipu. The lua provides an entertaining look at the culture and history of Hawaii’s land, tribes and legends.
Being that it’s a resort area, shopping in Poipu consists of mostly touristy items which is great when you’re looking for souvenirs to take back home. Poipu Shopping Village has more than 20 shops to browse, selling craft items, clothing and jewellery. The Village also hosts free shows for the public including Hula, Tahitian dance, Fire Knife dancing and live drumming. If you’re hoping for unique, one-of-a-kind “Made in Kauai” goods then your best bet is to head over to Old Koloa Town. Here you’ll find eateries, boutique shopping and small galleries.
Weather and Ocean Conditions
Choosing a luxury vacation rental in Poipu, Kauai means you’ll experience one of the best climates in Hawaii. Poipu is mostly dry and sunny with average winter temperatures of 78 F and summertime temperatures of 84 F, though you can expect the evenings to be about 10 degrees cooler. Ocean conditions are heavily influenced by weather conditions and wind. The Hawaiian trade winds blow across Kauai from the northeast, keeping things comfortable throughout the year. Because ocean conditions can change from day to day, it’s important to take precautions, heed warnings and read the safety signs posted on our beaches as these are there for your protection.
Staying in a resort area has its several advantages, one of which is being in close proximity to amenities; but we do recommend a rental car for those who’d like to explore the areas around your Poipu vacation rental.
