Voted one of America’s prettiest towns by Forbes Magazine, Kapaa is a quaint coastal community just north of Wailua on Kauai’s Royal Coconut Coast. What guests at our Kapaa luxury vacation rentals love most about the area is its small town vibe combined with plenty to see and do.
Things to Do
Kauai is known as the “Garden Isle” thanks to its lush tropical landscape complete with rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and emerald green see cliffs making this island a top pick amongst nature lovers. Our luxury vacation rental properties in Kappa are just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Nounou trail. This two mile trek leads through incredible foliage and winds its way to the top of Nounou Mountain, also known as the “Sleeping Giant”. This mountain earned its nickname due to its resemblance to a man lying on his back. The Kapaa bike path is also a great way to explore the area. Visitors can hike, walk or cycle the 8 mile stretch taking in the amazing ocean views while stopping at various shops, restaurants and beaches along the way. More than 60 films have been shot on the island of Kauai, and there are several tour companies who’ll take you to see some of the most popular locations. Golfers will want to get a round in at one of the nearby courses. The Wailua is closest but the Prince and Makai courses are just a short drive away. If your stay at one of our Kapaa luxury vacation rentals coincides with the last Saturday of the month, you won’t want to miss the Kapaa Art Walk. The streets of downtown come alive and are filled with local artists, musicians and some of Hawaii’s best street eats! Hawaii is Paradise of the Pacific after all, so there are always plenty of water activities to fill your time. Surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, and paddle boarding are all favorites and the area is ripe with rental shops that will help you get the gear required for whichever one strikes your fancy!
No Hawaii vacation would be complete without a trip to the beach and our luxury rental properties in Kapaa are in close proximity to some of the best beaches on the coast. Because it’s somewhat rocky, Kapaa beach isn’t the best for swimming, but it’s great for picnics, sunbathing, and snorkeling when the water is calm. Anahola Beach Park boasts a white sand beach which is protected from high surf by an off-shore reef making it one of the more swim-friendly beaches in the area. Kealia Beach Park is located at the north end of Kapaa and is a popular spot among locals for surfing and body boarding. When ocean conditions allow, this beach is also good for swimming towards the north end which tends to be calmer. Baby Beach is considered the best beach in the area for those with small children. Large rocks protect the area from high surf, and the water is shallow allowing for wading, sitting and splashing.
Restaurants & Nightlife
Guests at our Kappa luxury vacation properties will discover that while the town is small, there is certainly no shortage of restaurants serving up faire suited to every palate. Pono Market is well known for its local cuisine and according to reviews, has the “best poke on Kauai”. Monicos Taqueria in Kinipopo Village serves delicious authentic Mexican food that is both fresh and reasonably priced. For the health conscious eater, J02 Natural Cuisine is a culinary adventure you won’t want to miss. Their exciting Asian inspired menu consists of creative dishes made with organically grown and locally sourced ingredients. Trees Lounge is a great place to grab a cocktail and listen to some live local music, while Big Wave Dave’s Sports Bar will satisfy the burger lover in you.
Kapaa, Kauai offers visitors a variety of options for shopping. Aside from the small shops dotted along the bike trail, guests can also check out the Kinipopo Shopping Village or the Coconut Marketplace. Both offer boutique style shops and some fantastic eateries. There is great Farmer’s Market every Wednesday at the Kapaa New Town Ball Park where you’ll find locally grown fruits, vegetables, flowers, and homemade treats.
Weather and Ocean Conditions
Our Kapaa luxury vacation rentals are located on Kauai’s east shore which is sunny with intermittent showers; though most rainfalls are short lived. Kapaa’s weather can range from a low of 55 F to 78 F in January, and 64 F to 88 F in the summer months. The area receives the most rainfall in March. Ocean swells are largely dictated by weather conditions and wind. The east shore can be particularly dangerous, especially during high tide so it’s important to take precautions, heed warnings and read the safety signs posted on our beaches as these are there for your protection.
