Hawaii’s North Shore, High Surf Advisory!

Hawaii Hideaways wants to be the first to inform you! Most of the state is under a high-surf advisory until 6 a.m. Tuesday, with North Shore waves expected to reach 18 to 24 feet, per the National Service Department. The advisory covers North and West shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Niihau, with surf on Oahu’s West Shores forecast to peak at 15 feet. Hawaii island is not covered by the advisory. A large northwest swell is expected to peak tonight and subside Tuesday morning, according to the city Department of Emergency Management. But a new, larger swell, is expected to arrive Tuesday evening.

Hawaii Hideaways urges everyone to be safe when enjoying the ocean. Even small waves can pack quite a punch. One cubic foot of water weighs about 62 pounds. That means a cubic yard of water weighs about 1684 pounds. That’s almost one ton! Water isn’t solid, but it’s pretty heavy and can knock you around quite a bit. Be careful everyone!

Once crisscrossing the island, the many rail lines of Kauaiâ€™s sugar plantations were abandoned more than 40 years ago and today remain only as a fond memory of old time residents. With the opening of the Kauai Plantation Railway visitors are once again able to take a train ride both into the past and the future of Kauai agriculture. Lanikai Beach Park

Location:Mokolua Drive Kailua, HI

Lanikai Beach Park is one of the smaller beach parks on the island. However, this half mile sandy beach has won numerous awards for one of the best beaches. The rare turquoise blue water is my favorite character of this beach. Beach goers enjoy the swimmable waters and tide pools. Kayakers entertain in venturing to its offshore islands. Water conditions are generally pretty mellow but, kayakers need to be very cautious of the outer current that runs between the beach and offshore islands.

This alluring beach park is generally not a crowded beach. Parking is limited as a portion of the oceanfront lines private residences. I would recommend packing a lunch and chairs as facilities are not available at this park.

Oneloa “Ironwood” Beach

Location: Lower Honoapiilani Hwy just north of Kapalua Bay Resort & Shops.
Oneloa “Ironwoods” Beach is a quiet and generally uncrowded white sandy beach. Private estates and the Kapalua Golf Course border the beach and access. A delightful location for a nice stroll while enjoying superb views of Molokai. Local surfers and bodyboarders entertain themselves in the playful waves. Rip currents and swells frequent this location so, snorkeling if available, would be best in the early morning. Parking is available nearby but, its quite a stroll to and from the beach itself. Portable restrooms and showers are available for public use during day hours.

Our spectacular Infinity Bay property is located beachfront on Oneloa Beach.

Hanakao’o “Canoe” Beach

Location: Just before the Kaâ€™anapali Resorts on Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30)
This beach was given itâ€™s name as it is one of Mauiâ€™s main canoe practice sites. This long stretch of beach extends to other popular spots fronting the resorts. Canoe beach is definitely a local favorite. Enjoy the playful waves, catch a few sun rays or prefer to sit in the shade in the grassy area, fulfills every desired beach attender!
Convenient bathroom and shower facilities, large grassy areas, plenty of parking and picnic tables and BBQ Grill.

Location: Just past the Ritz Carlton on Honoapiilani Highway
A great beach park in the Kapalua area. This long sandy stretch beach is surrounded by large ironwood trees. Great shady areas! This beach does have strong currents and pending the conditions rip tides do occur. It does have a lifeguard station, shower and bathroom facilities, picnic and BBQ grill areas.
